Entering his 19th year with Camp Shutout, 10th year on staff and 7th year as the youth director, he has had an impact on thousands of youth. Jack is a licensed professional counselor and is well versed in both the athletic and psychological aspects of coaching. He holds a B.A. in Psychology and Legal Studies and an M.S. in Counseling Psychology.

Jack’s coaching philosophy:

"I am a firm believer in hard work and dedication and seek to pass that on by example. I believe in working smarter to maximize efficiency and that you get the most out of players when they find enjoyment in what they are doing."

"My framework lies in the psychology of human behavior and I am a huge proponent of mutual respect and positive reinforcement. My experience as a counselor and coach has taught me how to teach players in ways that make sense to them and provides progressive development. While I take pride in my work, I am also a kid at heart and believe in inspiring the youth I work with as much as providing them tools to succeed in soccer and life."

I am excited to be a part of Madison FC and look forward to helping players achieve their goals!

Jim Klinkner

USSF E License

Coach Klinkner is entering his 4th year coaching with Madison FC and 14th year coaching overall. He has been active in the Madison area soccer community for just as long, having served multiple positions on the MGSC Board of Directors, including U11-U15 Age Director for 3 years, as well as serving 4 years on the MAYSA Board of Directors. Jim also officiates throughout the MAYSA Region and uses this opportunity to teach players, coaches, and parents about the Laws of the Game.

Following an injury-shortened high school career Jim obtained the vast majority of his love for soccer at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh under the tutelage of Toby Bares - one of the winningest coaches in NCAA Division III Men's Soccer history. As UW-Oshkosh team manager, Jim worked closely with Toby for 4 years, learning how to develop practice plans, lead a program, and individually coach many different personalities. One of the most important pieces of advice he learned from Toby is that a player knows when he makes a mistake - there is no need for his coach to embarrass and berate him by screaming at him in front of his friends, family, and teammates.

Coach Klinkner's most rewarding moments of coaching youth soccer are watching the “Ah-ha” moment when something comes together for a player that has been working to improve!
